Overview
- Over 45 major European companies and tech lobby group CCIA Europe sent an open letter urging a two-year ‘clock-stop’ on the AI Act before key rules take effect in August.
- Provisions for general-purpose AI models, including transparency documentation, copyright compliance and bias, toxicity and robustness testing, remain scheduled to apply from August 2.
- The long-overdue AI Code of Practice is expected to be released in the coming days but voluntary sign-up and enforcement may not begin until the end of 2025.
- Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and other political leaders have described the AI requirements as confusing and backed calls for a temporary halt.
- The European Commission has not committed to delaying the August rollout and says it is committed to harmonised, risk-based AI regulations across the bloc.
