EU Fines Gucci, Chloé and Loewe €157 Million for Resale Price Fixing

Brussels said the brands curtailed retailers’ pricing freedom, breaching EU competition rules.

Overview

  • The Commission said the companies restricted independent retailers from deviating from recommended prices, capped discounts and dictated sales periods.
  • Penalties were set at €119.7 million for Gucci (Kering), €19.7 million for Chloé (Richemont) and €18 million for Loewe (LVMH).
  • Regulators said the conduct reduced competition and protected the brands’ own sales channels, leading to higher prices and less choice for consumers.
  • Kering said the case was resolved through cooperation and that the charge was already provisioned in its 2025 first-half results; Loewe pledged strict compliance and Chloé said it strengthened measures since 2023.
  • The ruling comes as luxury groups face mounting scrutiny over competition practices, supply-chain labor concerns in Italy and recent client-data breaches.
