• Three of the world's largest pornography sites, Pornhub, Xvideos, and Stripchat, have been designated as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) under the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA).
• The designation means these sites will face stricter regulations, including the need to verify users' age, combat the spread of illegal content, and ensure stronger protections against children accessing their sites.
• The sites will also be required to conduct regular risk assessments, undergo external audits, and publish transparency reports on content moderation decisions.
• Failure to comply with these regulations could result in fines of up to 6% of the sites' global turnover.
• The new regulations will come into effect in April 2024.
