EU Commission Selects 36,000 Young Europeans for Free Train Tickets

DiscoverEU will fund month-long train travel across Europe for applicants aged 18 or older from July 2025 through September 2026.

Knapp 36.000 junge Erwachsene können in den kommenden Monaten auf Kosten der EU-Kommission mit dem Zug durch Europa reisen. Brüssel vergab die Zugtickets an 18-Jährige aus den EU-Ländern, Island, Liechtenstein, Norwegen, Nordmazedonien, Serbien und der Türkei.

  • Applications processed in April cover EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey under the DiscoverEU scheme.
  • Successful applicants can explore Europe by rail for up to one month between July 2025 and September 2026 at no ticket cost.
  • Germany secured the largest share with over 6,100 funded spots, followed by high demand from Spain and Poland.
  • Launched in 2018, DiscoverEU has so far awarded more than 391,000 free rail tickets to young travellers.
  • Participants also receive discounts on accommodations and reduced admission to cultural institutions.
