EU climate chief Frans Timmermans quits to run in Dutch election

Frans Timmermans resigned as EU climate chief to run in Dutch national elections.
Timmermans will lead the Labour and Green Left parties in the November election.
The European Commission has not yet named a replacement for Timmermans.
Timmermans played a key role in EU climate initiatives and his departure leaves a gap.
Timmermans previously served as Dutch foreign minister from 2012 to 2014.
