Overview

  • UK passport holders arriving in Europe will register personal details and give fingerprints and a photo at border control.
  • Officials say processing may take a few extra minutes per passenger at launch, with the potential for longer queues.
  • The rules apply to Schengen Area destinations and also to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
  • Articles advise travellers to carry supporting documents such as proof of return travel, accommodation details, financial means and travel insurance, which officers may request.
  • A separate ETIAS pre-travel authorisation is expected by late 2026 with a €20 fee, and no immediate action is required.
