Overview
- EU ambassadors unanimously approved roughly 1,600 to 1,650 new designations on Oct. 7 and forwarded the list to EU foreign ministers for final adoption on Oct. 12.
- About 1,570 of the listings target Russia’s military‑industrial complex, with more than half linked to missile production.
- The list singles out shipyards, aviation and aerospace firms, electronics makers and repair facilities that support weapons and missile supply chains.
- Measures include travel bans, asset freezes and transaction restrictions, and the EU has already begun using smaller rolling lists to sanction election rigging, child abductions and propaganda.
- Once adopted the tranche will significantly expand the bloc’s Russia sanctions framework and is meant to choke key suppliers that allow Russia to sustain its war effort.
