Overview
- The European Commission approved a €6.1 billion tranche that completes the €28.3 billion earmarked for Ukraine’s defence capacity in 2026 and specifies suppliers, quantities and delivery timelines.
- The funding is designated for air and anti‑missile defence, munitions, drones and electronic warfare and formally allows Kyiv to buy PAC‑3 missiles for Patriot systems through NATO’s Purl mechanism.
- Brussels has already disbursed €8.35 billion this year, is examining a separate €4.7 billion payment request, and is reviewing contracts for compliance before releasing further payments.
- The package includes five derogations to normal procurement rules to cover higher‑cost Ukrainian drone components and U.S. equipment, and the Commission is pressing for faster deliveries by using stock, reprioritising orders and boosting production.
- An 18‑member EU–Ukraine drone board was launched to scale joint manufacturing and technology ties, with a stated goal to raise EU FPV drone output toward Russian annual levels and to expand work for both EU and Ukrainian firms.
