Overview
- The Chamber of Deputies’ Ethics and Parliamentary Decorum Council called off its September 30 meeting that was set to decide whether to open four disciplinary proceedings, and no new date has been set.
- All cases were forwarded by the Chamber’s Board after it accepted corregedor Diego Coronel’s opinion stemming from the early August occupation of the plenary.
- Marcos Pollon faces two representations that could total up to 120 days of suspension, with 90 days suggested for remarks against Speaker Hugo Motta and 30 days for obstructing the president’s chair.
- Marcel van Hattem and Zé Trovão each face recommended 30‑day suspensions for obstructing the chair, while other involved deputies were recommended for written censure that the Board can impose directly.
- Suspensions must still be deliberated by the Ethics Council and then voted on in the full Chamber, and the cases grow out of protests that sought to block votes and press for a January 8 amnesty while Jair Bolsonaro was under house arrest.
