Overview
- The Ethereum Economic Zone completed a single atomic L1-to-L2 transaction on mainnet on Oct. 5–6 that touched both Ethereum’s base layer and a Layer 2 in one all-or-nothing operation.
- EEZ’s code bundles operations with a proxy-and-bundle pattern and submits them through an L1 function called postAndVerifyBatch so the L1 block producer orders L1 and L2 pieces in the same Ethereum block.
- The live test carried only 0.001 ETH and the project’s repository labels the implementation early-stage, so the deployment is an experimental proof of concept with audits still in preparation.
- Developers tested EEZ against real apps such as CoW Swap and Uniswap v4, showing how synchronous cross-layer calls could let applications use L1 liquidity and L2 execution without separate bridge steps.
- The next signals to watch are audit results, which Layer 2 rollups opt to accept L1 sequencing, and planned early rollouts such as Gnosis Chain’s expected genesis around December 2026 or January 2027.
