Ethena Launches Ethena Pay Beta to Bring USDe Into a Consumer Wallet

The beta links Ethena’s USDe stablecoin to savings, payments and a Visa card with settlement on Avalanche to test a consumer-facing internet money product.

Overview

  • Ethena rolled out Ethena Pay in beta on Tuesday, Sept. 1, granting 400 early users access and promising weekly expansion through September as it tests a consumer app that holds USDe balances.
  • The app advertises up to 6% annual rewards on USDe but places those gains behind tiered caps, a membership structure and a discretionary “Daily Boost” that the company calls a promotional incentive rather than guaranteed interest.
  • Ethena Pay is self-custodial so users keep private keys and Ethena cannot restore lost wallets, and the product explicitly states that balances and rewards are not covered by FDIC or similar government deposit insurance.
  • Payments and settlement run exclusively on Avalanche, cashback is paid in AVAX, and the Visa card is issued through a Puerto Rico-chartered bank with Signify/Rain as the program manager.
  • The launch builds on Ethena’s institutional work — USDe has roughly $4 billion circulating and links to Coinbase, a FalconX facility and BlackRock integrations — which has lifted ENA token prices and could steer revenue and buyback plans if consumer uptake grows.
