E.T. Animatronic Head Auctioned for $635,000
The iconic movie prop was among several high-profile items sold at the 'Hollywood Legends' auction event.
- The original mechanical animatronic head of E.T., from Steven Spielberg’s “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” movie, sold for $635,000 at an auction event called “Hollywood Legends,” organized by Julien’s Auction and TCM Presents.
- The animatronic head was created by legendary special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi for the 1982 film and is made of a metal frame and covered with a foam latex outer skin designed to activate the pulsing of E.T.’s veins.
- The name of the individual who purchased this legendary piece of movie memorabilia has not been revealed.
- Other pop culture items that were auctioned off included a “Lost in Space” Robot Model B-9, which sold for $455,000, and a “Conan The Destroyer” sword that sold for $45,500, four times more than its estimated value.
- 'Harry Potter' prop wands also exceeded expectations, with Ron Weasley's selling for $76,200, Hermione Granger's for $28,575, and Lord Voldemort's for $57,150.
