Overview

• On June 23, Audwin Caines allegedly ambushed and fatally shot his estranged wife, nurse Chaneil Ramsay, in broad daylight in South Jamaica as she shielded her 21-year-old daughter.
• Ramsay was struck multiple times at point-blank range and pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center after collapsing on the sidewalk.
• A three-week manhunt by the NYPD’s Regional Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshals ended with Caines’s arrest in Harlem on July 15.
• Queens District Attorney’s Office has charged Caines with second-degree murder, attempted murder for targeting his stepdaughter, weapons possession and criminal mischief.
• He also faces an additional assault charge for stabbing Ramsay with a broken liquor bottle last July, underscoring a history of intimate partner violence.
