EsSalud Lambayeque Reports S/1.4 Million Unauthorized Bank Transfers

The insurer says the money was moved after suspected phone-based impersonation and remote access and has asked prosecutors and the bank to freeze and trace recipient accounts.

Overview

  • EsSalud’s Lambayeque network detected five unrecognized transfers totaling S/1,406,991 that were executed from an institutional account on Friday, August 14.
  • Police and prosecutors have received criminal complaints and EsSalud filed an urgent claim with Scotiabank to block the destination accounts and trace the transactions for possible recovery.
  • Preliminary reports and the institution’s complaint describe a scheme in which callers posed as Scotiabank support, obtained remote access to a computer and captured user credentials and a token.
  • The case has been referred to the regional Secretaría Técnica de Procedimiento Administrativo Disciplinario to determine staff responsibility, and local outlets report the regional head of administration has been removed from her post.
  • Authorities say 10 natural and legal persons linked to recipient accounts have been reported to the police and EsSalud warned that institutional insurance may not cover losses if negligence is proven, making forensic and administrative findings central to recovery and liability.
