ESPN Launches MNF Playbook Altcast With Real-Time AI Predictions Starting Dec. 22

The network is testing Adrenaline’s AI, which turns Sean Lee’s on-field reads into real-time pre-snap predictions.

Overview

  • The data-focused feed airs on ESPN2 on December 22 and December 29 before shifting to the ESPN app for a Week 18 game and ESPN’s Wild Card and Divisional round broadcasts.
  • On-screen graphics will display live run-versus-pass probabilities, blitz likelihoods, expected target distributions, and other metrics that update until the snap.
  • Luke Kuechly, Dan Orlovsky, and Field Yates lead the first two telecasts, with Mike Monaco, Tim Hasselbeck, and Chase Daniel slated to rotate in and analytics experts Brian Burke and Seth Walder contributing.
  • The predictive engine comes from Adrenaline’s FieldVision AI, trained on hundreds of thousands to more than a million NFL and college plays, with Sean Lee guiding how player tendencies and alignments inform the model.
  • ESPN positions the altcast as an experiment alongside the main Joe BuckTroy Aikman broadcast, using a familiar field-wide view with augmented reality overlays rather than replacing existing presentations.
