He was last seen jumping into Buffalo Bayou before being tracked to his mother's house in Cloverleaf.
The escape triggered a lockdown at the University of Houston-Downtown and emergency alerts.
Sanders had been in custody on burglary charges and now faces additional charges of aggravated robbery and escape.
Two relatives were also arrested for hindering his apprehension.
