Escaped Colorado Springs Teens Captured in Pueblo After Tip

Detectives have opened a criminal probe into the weapons, suspected narcotics and alleged harboring found at the Pueblo apartment.

Overview

  • Deputies and U.S. Marshals entered an apartment on the 1000 block of W. 13th Street just after midnight Wednesday and arrested 17-year-olds Dameron Carbajal and Cristian Jaramillo without incident.
  • The teens had been on the run since Sept. 22 after walking away from the Spring Creek Youth Services Center in Colorado Springs, according to officials.
  • A protective sweep uncovered multiple firearms, including three Glock handguns with extended magazines—one modified to be fully automatic—an AR-style rifle with a high-capacity magazine, ammunition, suspected narcotics, cash, digital scales and other items consistent with drug distribution.
  • Several occupants tried to flee through a window before officers secured the scene; 22-year-old Dylan Vanluven was arrested on El Paso County warrants and 38-year-old Guadalupe Valdez was taken into custody on a misdemeanor warrant, authorities said.
  • Pueblo County detectives are leading the investigation into the seized contraband and possible harboring as the two teens remain in county custody; officials note prior adjudications for attempted murder and felony kidnapping.
