Ertiga Tops August as India’s Passenger-Vehicle Market Falls 7.5% Year on Year

Maruti remained the leading maker, with tax cuts under GST 2.0 from September 22 expected to spur near-term demand.

8th place: With 12,422 units dispatched, the Fronx maintained its position on the leaderboard in August.
2nd place: The Dzire was the chart-topper in July 2025, but at 16,509 units sold in August, the compact sedan sees the largest month-on-month deficit (3,491 units).
1st place: With 18,445 units dispatched, the Ertiga MPV reigned supreme in the August 2025 sales charts.

  • Passenger-vehicle wholesales in August were 327,719 units, down 7.5% from a year earlier.
  • Maruti Suzuki led manufacturers with 131,278 units, followed by Hyundai at 44,001 and Tata at 41,001.
  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was the best-selling model with 18,445 units, breaking a recent SUV streak, while Hyundai Creta led SUVs at 15,924.
  • Tata Nexon rose about 14% year on year to 14,004 units as Maruti Brezza fell 29% to 13,620, with Maruti Fronx holding flat at 12,422.
