Eritrea's Berhane Tesfay and Kenya's Joyce Chepkemoi Tele Triumph at Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025

Tesfay secured a historic win in the men's elite race, while Tele dominated the women's category despite limited preparation.

  • Berhane Tesfay became the first Eritrean to win the Tata Mumbai Marathon, finishing the men's elite race in 2:11:44, narrowly ahead of compatriot Merhawi Kesete.
  • Kenya's Joyce Chepkemoi Tele claimed victory in the women's elite category with a time of 2:24:56, just 41 seconds shy of the course record.
  • Ethiopia's Tesfaye Demeke and Bahrain's Shitaye Eshete took third and second places in the men's and women's elite races, respectively.
  • In the Indian categories, Anish Thapa and Nirmaben Thakor emerged victorious in the men's and women's full marathon events, with Thapa clocking 2:17:23 and Thakor defending her title with 2:50:06.
  • The event saw over 65,000 participants across various categories, including a Dream Run for social causes and a historic 20th consecutive half-marathon completion by former BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.
