Erin Bates Paine Takes First Steps After Postpartum Seizure Left Her Leg Immobilized

The Bringing Up Bates alum is home after a three-week ICU stay for infection-related septic shock.

  • Sharing an Oct. 2 Instagram update, Bates Paine said her previously immobile leg moved and she managed a few wobbly steps.
  • She developed a severe UTI and kidney infection after her Aug. 25 delivery that progressed to septic shock, followed by a lengthy, severe seizure in the hospital.
  • After nearly three weeks inpatient, she was discharged on Sept. 13 with no function in her right leg and has been using a wheelchair and walker during rehabilitation.
  • Her newborn son, Henry Blythe, was reported to be doing well after time in the NICU and is now home with the family.
  • Bates Paine thanked supporters and medical teams, noting continued physical therapy as doctors work to clarify lingering complications.
