Overview

  • Epoch Company voluntarily dismissed its lawsuit in the Southern District of New York accusing Sylvanian Drama of copyright infringement and unfair competition.
  • The company had argued that the account’s adult-themed parodies of its child-friendly Sylvanian Families dolls inflicted irreparable reputational harm.
  • Irish creator Thea von Engelbrechten filed a counternotice by August 8 asserting her videos are protected parody under U.S. fair use law.
  • Both sides were slated to appear at a pretrial conference on August 14 to explore settlement options or prepare for trial.
  • Sylvanian Drama, which amassed over three million followers on Instagram and TikTok and secured partnerships with brands including Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Netflix and Hilton, has not posted new content since January and plans to rename the account.
