Overview
- January 6, known as Día de Reyes, marks the Epiphany honoring the Magi and is observed with nativity rites, blessings of the Niño Jesús, processions and the sharing of Rosca de Reyes.
- Peru has not declared January 6, 2026 an official holiday or nonworking day in El Peruano, so public and private employees are expected to work under Decree 713.
- Mexico’s Federal Labor Law (Article 74) does not list January 6 as a mandatory paid rest day, making it a regular workday for employees.
- Mexico’s Education Ministry calendar suspends classes on January 6 for preschool, primary and secondary students, with classes resuming on Wednesday, January 7.
- Local events proceed ahead of the feast, including Morelia’s January 5 cabalgata from the Santuario del Niño de la Salud to the Cathedral, followed by a public message and a monumental Rosca de Reyes.
