Epic Sues Two Fortnite Creators Over 20,000-Bot Scheme to Inflate Payouts

The company says the botting siphoned funds from legitimate creators, undermining trust in its engagement-based payout system.

Overview

  • Epic filed the complaint on Oct. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against Idris Nahdi and Ayob Nasser.
  • The suit alleges the pair used more than 20,000 fake accounts between December 2024 and February 2025, with 88% to 99% of activity on their islands coming from bots.
  • According to the filing, the bots were run through a cloud gaming service to simulate playtime and retention across multiple accounts and islands.
  • Epic says it began withholding portions of payments in January and February 2025, saw bot activity drop afterward, then removed the islands and banned the defendants.
  • The company seeks to recover tens of thousands of dollars, obtain injunctions blocking access to Epic servers for the defendants and associated parties, and pursue claims of breach of contract, copyright infringement, and fraud.
