Overview

  • The Persona Device in Unreal Editor for Fortnite lets creators configure NPC personalities, voices and objectives for real-time conversational interactions, as demonstrated by the “Mr. Buttons” demo.
  • The underlying AI leverages the same system that powered the AI Darth Vader NPC introduced in May, with Epic targeting a public rollout of creator-built AI characters later in 2025.
  • UEFN’s upcoming feature slate includes a LEGO Brick Editor on June 17, Squid Game assets on June 27 and Avatar: The Last Airbender creation tools in 2026.
  • Epic is beta testing the Epic Developer Assistant AI chatbot for writing Verse code in UEFN and will provide built-in safety measures to address SAG-AFTRA’s concerns over AI-generated voices.
  • CEO Tim Sweeney says AI tools like the Persona Device will enable smaller teams to build larger, more immersive games by automating dialogue and character interactions.
