EPFO Logs Record Net Addition of 21.89 Lakh Members in June

Provisional payroll data points to expanding formal-sector coverage driven largely by first-time young workers.

Overview

  • Net payroll additions rose 9.14% from May and 13.46% year-on-year to the highest monthly total since EPFO began publishing data in 2018.
  • EPFO enrolled 10.62 lakh new subscribers, with 60.22% aged 18–25 and a net gain of about 9.72 lakh in that age group.
  • Roughly 16.93 lakh former members re-joined, reflecting job switches and transfers of balances that kept social-security coverage intact.
  • Female participation strengthened with about 3.02 lakh new women subscribers and net female additions of around 4.72 lakh.
  • Maharashtra contributed 20.03% of June’s net additions, eight states each topped 5%, and expert services accounted for roughly 42% of growth; figures remain provisional and subject to revision.
