Epec Steps Up Córdoba Storm Repairs and Schedules Jan. 4 Maintenance

National enforcement focuses on stressed distributors after Buenos Aires outages.

Overview

  • Epec reports around 25 fallen poles on Ruta 9 Norte and says 23 of 420 medium‑voltage distributors were affected at the storm’s peak, driving large-area outages in northwest Córdoba capital.
  • Reinforced crews are prioritizing restorations where potable water pumps and other essential services were disrupted and where the greatest number of users are without supply.
  • Operators attribute failures to extreme heat followed by wind, rain and hail that caused water ingress in ceramic insulators and increased conductor movement and breakage.
  • Preventive work will require scheduled cuts on Jan. 4, including transformer station maintenance from 06:00 to 12:30 affecting Idiazábal, La Laguna and Pasco, and primary network work from 07:30 to 11:30 in a defined sector of Córdoba city.
  • Following heat-driven outages in the AMBA that affected up to 4.4 million people, ENRE cites distributor responsibility and notes 108 sanctions in 2025 totaling ARS 53,750 million, while Rosario’s EPE says it is better positioned for February after roughly ARS 80,000 million in upgrades.
