Overview

  • The EPA’s July 23 proposal seeks to re-register three low-volatility dicamba products from Bayer, BASF and Syngenta for use on genetically engineered cotton and soybeans.
  • To reduce off-target damage, the agency is recommending tighter application rates, defined spray windows and temperature restrictions.
  • The plan responds to a 2024 U.S. District Court ruling that vacated earlier dicamba registrations over improper public input procedures.
  • Agribusiness groups and farmers have praised the move and are submitting supportive comments during the open consultation.
  • Environmental advocates warn drift concerns persist and question the influence of former lobbyist Kyle Kunkler in the EPA’s pesticide office.
