Overview

  • Environment Canada upgraded its earlier storm watch to a severe thunderstorm warning for the Nicola region at around 3:30 p.m. Friday.
  • The advisory area stretches from Tulameen to Lac Le Jeune, including Merritt and parts of the Coquihalla Highway north of Hope.
  • Meteorologists warn the storm could produce pea to dime-sized hail, gusty winds and heavy rain.
  • The thunderstorm was centered over Pennask Lake and was moving north at approximately five kilometres per hour.
  • South Thompson, North Thompson and Okanagan areas remain under a severe thunderstorm watch, with warnings of flash flooding, reduced visibility, difficult driving conditions.
