English National Opera Strike Suspended

Interim settlement reached with chorus, negotiations to continue

  • English National Opera (ENO) musicians and chorus have suspended their planned strike over pay and conditions, according to the performing arts union Equity.
  • The strike was set to occur on the opening night of the new run of The Handmaid's Tale on February 1.
  • An interim settlement has been reached for the chorus, and negotiations with the ENO will continue.
  • The Musicians' Union will continue taking action short of a strike while negotiations are ongoing.
  • The strike suspension comes after ENO management announced plans to make all of the chorus, orchestra and music staff redundant and re-employ them for six months of the year.
