Overview

• National rules under the Environment Act require four waste streams and weekly food collections, supporting DEFRA’s 2035 recycling target alongside a 2027 deposit return scheme.
• Sandwell will deliver water-resistant blue bags for paper, cardboard and cartons from August 26, separating them from plastics, metals and glass in the existing blue‑lidded bin.
• Nottingham City plans to introduce kerbside food-waste collections in 2026 following trials begun in 2023, while several Nottinghamshire districts have extensions to start in 2027.
• Rushcliffe will add kerbside glass collections from December 2025 using new purple‑lidded 180‑litre bins and will review and remove many existing recycling sites.
• Bassetlaw will launch six‑weekly kerbside glass collections from March 2026, expand materials accepted in blue bins, and release a collections app later this year.
