Overview

  • At about 1,500 feet after takeoff from Corfu on August 16, the right engine of flight DE3665 experienced surges and burst into flames.
  • After shutting down the malfunctioning engine, the crew climbed to roughly 8,000 feet, declared an emergency and diverted the Boeing 757-300 to Brindisi, Italy.
  • The aircraft landed safely at Brindisi Airport with emergency services on standby and without any injuries among the 273 passengers and eight crew.
  • Condor accommodated the passengers in local hotels overnight and scheduled their onward journey to Düsseldorf for the next day.
  • Multiple videos shared online captured sparks and a loud explosion-like noise from the failing engine as the aircraft climbed away from Corfu.
