Endoh Signs One-Day Deal to Retire With Toronto FC

The former winger, now in remission from leukemia, will be honored before Saturday’s match by delivering the game ball as he closes his Toronto FC career

  • Toronto FC announced a ceremonial one-day contract to allow Tsubasa Endoh to officially retire as a Red before the July 12 game against Atlanta United
  • Endoh will step onto BMO Field pre-match to deliver the official game ball, marking the culmination of his six seasons with the club
  • During his 2016–21 tenure, Endoh made 80 appearances for Toronto FC, scoring 10 goals, registering five assists and helping secure the 2017 treble
  • After his December 2021 acute leukemia diagnosis, he underwent chemotherapy, radiation and a bone-marrow transplant and now manages chronic graft-versus-host disease in remission
  • Following stints with Melbourne City FC and the LA Galaxy reserve side, Endoh is completing a master’s in sports management in Tokyo as he adapts to life beyond professional soccer
