Endangered Sea Turtles Flown to Florida for Rehabilitation

Over 50 young Kemp's ridley turtles, suffering from cold stun, dehydration, and injuries, are receiving treatment at various facilities.

  • Over 50 cold-stunned Kemp's ridley sea turtles were flown from Massachusetts to Florida for rehabilitation.
  • The sea turtles, which are between 1 and 3 years old, were suffering from dehydration, pneumonia, and injuries like fractured shells.
  • The turtles were taken to four different facilities in Florida, where they will continue their rehabilitation before being released back into the wild.
  • Sea turtles can become cold-stunned when water temperatures drop below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, causing them to become weak and inactive.
  • Florida has seen a record number of sea turtle nests this year, with over 133,840 loggerhead turtle nests and at least 76,500 green turtle nests.
