ENAC Confirms Only Five Italian Airports Apply New Two-Liter Liquid Rule

Uneven adoption of next-generation scanners at Italian airports is forcing many travelers into costly hold baggage when carrying liquids over 100 ml.

Overview

  • Ecac’s July 25 decision permits up to two liters of liquids in hand luggage at airports equipped with certified next-generation scanners.
  • ENAC’s July 27 notice lists Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Bologna and Turin Caselle as the only Italian hubs implementing the relaxed limits.
  • Turin Caselle restricts the two-liter allowance to its Fast track lane, charging non-cardholders €9 per passage for access.
  • Passengers at non-compliant airports discover liquids over 100 ml must be checked at the last moment, incurring fees from €35.99 to €130.
  • Assoutenti and Consumerismo No Profit are calling on ENAC to publish an updated list of compliant airports and for airlines to clearly display liquid allowances on tickets.
