Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako visited Ishikawa Prefecture, including the Noto Peninsula, to inspect areas affected by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake.
During their visit, they met with evacuees in shelters, offering encouraging words and listening to their experiences.
The trip marked their second visit to a disaster-hit area since the emperor's enthronement in 2019.
The earthquake resulted in 241 deaths, including 15 from indirect causes, with over 9,000 residents displaced.
Reconstruction efforts have been slow, hindered by the region's aging population and the destruction of infrastructure.
