Overview
- The Imperial Household Agency confirmed that the Emperor, Empress and Princess Aiko will visit Nagasaki from Sept. 12 to 14 for wartime memorial ceremonies and outreach activities.
- Princess Aiko will make her first trip to Nagasaki as she joins her parents in honoring atomic-bomb victims and preserving survivor testimony.
- On Sept. 12 the imperial party will lay flowers at the hypocenter monument in Peace Park, tour the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and meet hibakusha.
- The schedule for Sept. 13 includes a visit to a local care home for atomic-bomb survivors to exchange memories and hear firsthand accounts.
- The visit will conclude on Sept. 14 with the Emperor’s and Empress’s attendance at the opening ceremonies of the 40th National Cultural Festival and the 25th National Arts and Culture Festival for Persons with Disabilities in Sasebo.
