Overview
- The ceremony was held on Dec. 6 at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo’s Shinjuku to mark the club’s 120th year.
- Ahead of the program, he viewed exhibits on youth Himalayan expeditions as well as surveys of historic mountain routes across Japan.
- He was welcomed with applause, listened to the president’s address, and later attended the dinner reception.
- He joined the Japan Alpine Club in 1987 and in 2016 contributed an essay to its journal Sangaku titled “Visiting Mountains of History and Faith.”
- According to the Asahi Shimbun, he remarked on the club’s long history and observed that young climbers are developing.
