Emonte Morgan Found Guilty in 2021 Shooting of Chicago Police Officers

The jury convicted Morgan of first-degree murder and attempted murder for the fatal shooting of Officer Ella French and wounding of Officer Carlos Yanez Jr. during a traffic stop.

Emonte Morgan, 23, was convicted for the shooting that occurred during a traffic stop on Chicago's South Side in August 2021.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours before reaching a verdict, finding Morgan guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and firearm possession as a felon.
Officer Ella French was killed, and her partner, Officer Carlos Yanez Jr., was wounded in the incident. A third officer was fired at but not injured.
The defense rested without calling any witnesses, while the prosecution presented emotional testimony and body-camera footage from the scene.
Eric Morgan, Emonte's brother, and Jamel Danzy were also implicated in the case, with Danzy sentenced for making an illegal straw purchase of the handgun used in the shooting.
