Emmy-Winning Director Rod Holcomb Dies at 80

Rod Holcomb, renowned television director known for his work on 'ER', 'Lost', and 'China Beach', has died at the age of 80 after a long illness.
Holcomb directed hundreds of television episodes over his 40-year career, including 21 pilots, 15 of which went to series.
He received four Emmy nominations for his work, three for 'ER' and one for 'China Beach', winning an Emmy in 2009 for directing the series finale of 'ER'.
Holcomb was known for his innovative use of Steadicam and other cinematic techniques, which helped establish a new visual aesthetic for television.
He was an active member of the Directors Guild of America, serving on seven negotiating committees and as the co-chair of the Television Creative Rights Committee.
