Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has made a successful return to tennis after an eight-month absence due to injuries, winning her first match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse at the Auckland Classic.
Raducanu, who had slipped to 301st in the world rankings due to her absence, showed resilience in her comeback match, winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in two hours and 27 minutes.
Despite a challenging match with ups and downs, Raducanu expressed gratitude for her health and excitement to be back on the tour, hoping to continue the season injury-free and healthy.
Raducanu's next challenge is a match against second seed Elina Svitolina in the last 16 of the Auckland Classic.
Following the withdrawal of American Lauren Davis due to injury, Raducanu has been granted a place in the main draw of the Australian Open, which begins on January 14.
