Emirates Switches On Passport-Free Travel at Dubai Terminal 3 With 200 Face-Scan Cameras

An AED85m rollout with Dubai’s GDRFAD enables registered flyers to move through Terminal 3 using facial recognition only.

Overview

  • More than 200 cameras are now active across DXB Terminal 3 at check-in, GDRFAD Smart Gates for immigration, five lounge entry points in Concourse B, and selected boarding gates in Concourses A, B and C.
  • Enrollment is available via the Emirates app, self-service kiosks or check-in counters and requires Emirates Skywards membership, a passport scan and consent for use of biometrics; registrants must be 18 or older.
  • At passport control, eligible travelers use Smart Gates with a facial scan, including UAE citizens and residents, GCC nationals and visa-on-arrival visitors carrying biometric passports.
  • If no GDRFAD biometric record exists, Emirates creates a temporary profile that is converted into a permanent government record after entry, with the airline stating processing follows UAE data-protection regulations.
  • Emirates says more biometric boarding gates and support for transfer passengers will be added in the coming months to further reduce queues and document checks.
