Overview

  • From 1 October 2025, passengers will no longer be allowed to use or charge power banks on Emirates flights
  • Each customer may carry a single power bank under 100 Wh that must display its capacity rating and be stowed under the seat or in a seat pocket
  • The new rules continue the existing prohibition on power banks in checked baggage and ban placement in overhead lockers
  • The policy follows a rise in lithium-ion battery incidents, notably the January Air Busan ground fire at Gimhae traced to a power bank in an overhead locker
  • Emirates joins a wave of carriers and regulators tightening portable battery rules to standardize safety measures and simplify compliance
