Overview

• Queensland Police issued an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act at 12:30pm Friday.
• An exclusion zone spans David Low Way from Podargus Parade to Woodland Drive and multiple nearby streets including Martin, Avocet, Peregian Esplanade, Parakeet, Egrer, Teal, Currawong, Osprey, Tern, Garnet, Ibis, Pelican and Kingfisher.
• Residents within the declared area were instructed to remain indoors unless specifically directed otherwise by police.
• The public was urged to avoid Peregian Beach and surrounding bushland and residential areas during the operation.
• Police have not identified the nature of the device, and specialist officers remain on scene to assess or remove it.
