Overview

  • Galicia activated Situación 2 for a fast-moving fire in A Pobra do Brollón that neared the hamlets of Golmar, Conceado and San Pedro, prompting a suspension of the A CoruñaPonferrada rail line and voluntary departures by residents.
  • Galicia's August fires have scorched nearly 92,000 hectares, though major Ourense complexes — including Chandrexa de Queixa after 17 days and Larouco — are now stabilized or controlled, with three significant fires still active.
  • Carballeda de Valdeorras remains active at more than 4,400 hectares and a newer blaze in Avión expanded quickly, as wind and dry conditions complicate suppression.
  • In Castilla y León, evacuations continued in León and Zamora as fires near Porto and Garaño reactivated, authorities closed the CL-626 and counted more than 700 people displaced, and national officials warned extreme risk could persist until later in the week.
  • Law enforcement detained a suspect in Arbo and is investigating two people in Pontevedra over an earlier blaze that burned 56 hectares, while in Argentina's Mendoza province officials logged 88 weekend fires and warned of a high-risk next quarter after a 1,700-hectare burn near Monte Comán and San Rafael.
