Emergency Bushfire Warning for Worrowing Heights as Residents Told to Shelter

Hot, gusty conditions are driving an uncontained blaze near Sanctuary Point.

  • Authorities declared it too late to leave for Worrowing Heights and instructed people to shelter inside a solid structure.
  • The fire is reported at about 7,000 square metres, burning north of Sanctuary Point near The Wool Rd and Larmer Ave, and is not contained.
  • Fire crews are protecting the Coastal Waters Retirement Village in Worrowing Heights, with residents there told to shelter.
  • Residents in Sanctuary Point, Old Erowal Bay and Erowal Bay were told to prepare now, and people away from the area were urged not to return.
  • Firefighters are working to slow the spread as winds raise the risk of ember attack, with local readings around 27°C and winds up to 13 km/h; a Watch and Act is also in place for Glen Alice.
