Overview
- Embark announced a pause to Expeditions through early 2027 and confirmed the fifth Expedition will be the last before that hiatus.
- Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal told reporters at Gamescom that the studio is considering major changes and has not ruled out removing the Expeditions system entirely.
- Expeditions are an optional soft‑wipe prestige system that resets levels, skills and inventory in exchange for unique benefits, and players have repeatedly complained about grind, poor reward pacing, narrow departure windows and low uptake.
- Embark says incremental fixes across Caravan windows failed to solve core complaints, and the studio will not make further changes to Expeditions before the Frozen Trail update on Oct. 8.
- The studio has promised to preserve earned consecutive expedition buffs and convert partly completed caravans into Ermal Vouchers, and the pause could affect player retention and long‑term progression plans while Embark decides whether to redesign or remove the mode.
