UK Government Plans Expansion of Opt-Out HIV Testing Program Amid Calls for More Action

Sir Elton John addressed British lawmakers, urging them to do more to fight HIV and AIDS, stating that the UK could be the first country in the world to defeat the virus.
The UK government has announced plans to expand an opt-out HIV testing program, which has been successful in identifying undiagnosed cases of HIV.
The program, which also tests for Hepatitis B and C, will be rolled out to 46 more emergency departments across England, aiming to reach an estimated 4,500 people in England living with undiagnosed HIV.
The UK aims to achieve zero HIV transmissions in England by 2030, in line with World Health Organization goals.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak praised Elton John's AIDS Foundation for raising awareness, reducing stigma, and saving lives.
