Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes fined X, formerly Twitter, 8.1 million reais ($1.42 million) for noncompliance with judicial orders.
The case involves X's failure to take down a profile accused of spreading misinformation and its refusal to provide the user's registration data.
X argued it could not supply the data due to the user's lack of technical connection to Brazil, but the court rejected this defense.
The platform had previously faced a nationwide suspension in 2024 for noncompliance with Brazil's legal requirements but was reinstated after meeting conditions, including paying overdue fines.
Elon Musk has previously criticized Justice de Moraes, calling him a 'dictator,' during disputes over free speech and misinformation moderation on the platform.
