Elon Musk Deploys Starlink Terminals to Support LA During Devastating Wildfires

The wildfires, which have destroyed thousands of structures and displaced over 100,000 residents, have left large areas of Los Angeles without cell service.

Elon Musk announced that SpaceX will provide free Starlink terminals to areas in Los Angeles affected by the ongoing wildfires, starting January 9, 2025.
The Palisades fire, the largest in Los Angeles history, has burned over 17,000 acres, destroyed 1,000 structures, and remains 0% contained, with other fires also causing widespread damage.
More than 100,000 people have been evacuated, and at least five fatalities have been reported, as strong Santa Ana winds exacerbate the spread of the fires.
Starlink's satellite-based internet service is enabling communication in areas where cell towers have been destroyed, aiding emergency responders, displaced residents, and media coverage.
Musk criticized California's environmental regulations, claiming they hinder wildfire prevention efforts, such as creating fire breaks and clearing brush.
