Elmwood Place Pair Charged After 3 Children Found Malnourished as Judge Sets $600,000 Bonds

Prosecutors describe the case as one of the most insidious child abuse incidents seen in 25 years.

Overview

  • Police were called on Sept. 13 to a Helen Street home for a report of a 9-year-old not breathing, and EMS resuscitated the child and transported him to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
  • Doctors reported the 9-year-old weighed about 30 pounds with a core temperature near 80 degrees and showed signs of severe starvation and physical abuse, and he remains on life support.
  • The boy's siblings, ages 6 and 8, were also found malnourished, were hospitalized for treatment, and remain admitted, authorities said.
  • Angel Holland and her live-in partner, Aaron Stalling, were each charged with three counts of felonious assault and three counts of child endangering, and a judge ordered $600,000 straight cash bonds for both.
  • A grand jury will review the case in early October, and detectives say a search of Holland's vehicle recovered bungee cords, a belt, and soiled towels.
